The University of Limerick (UL) is a leading institution known for outstanding research and is based in the heart of Ireland. Formerly named Irish University of the Year by The Sunday Times Good University Guide, UL has also been ranked as one of the top 100 Young Universities in the World by the Times Higher Education.
Since its founding in 1972, Limerick has developed into one of the top universities in Ireland. It provides unrivalled graduate employment rates, with the highest rate in all of Ireland. This is helped by its tremendous work placement programme, the largest of any university in Ireland, and the largest international exchange programme.
UL is ranked second in the world for International Student Happiness. 94.5% of international students who studied at UL responded that they were happy with their study experience, placing UL second out of 199 institutions worldwide. These results are from the I-Graduate International Student Barometer, a global benchmark for the international student experience.
Other results from ISB included the UL International Office ranking number 1 out of 51 UK and Ireland universities. UL also scored highest for pre-arrival information for international students. Nationally, UL boasts the best access to and quality of accommodation, the best campus environment, the best multi-cultural learning environment, the best library, the best internet access on arrival, the best formal welcome and the best sports facilities.
The UL International Office also organises the International Orientation Welcome Programme. This is a week-long organised series of fun events to help you settle in and meet other students. It takes place during the first week in September for students beginning their studies in autumn.
UL has also been awarded 5-star rankings for graduate employability, innovation and knowledge transfer, teaching, engagement, internationalisation and infrastructure by the QS Stars independent assessors.
UL offers accommodation in beautiful residences for up to 2,800 students. Six of the seven residential villages on campus are Plassey Village, Kilmurry Village, Thomond Village, Dromroe Village, Quigley Residence and Cappavilla Village. Fees vary depending on the choice of room.
Off-campus accommodation at Troy Village is 15 minutes from the main university campus. The residential villages provide various maintenance and in-house inventory services. Residence rental fees include a swimming pool, sports gym, and internet.
The 148-hectare university campus is situated on the banks of River Shannon and surrounded by extensive parkland estates. It is one of the most picturesque campuses in Europe, and the campus is ideally located for students to enjoy an active sporting and cultural life. Relaxing cycling and walking tours along the banks of River Shannon and the spectacular Living Bridge provide an opportunity to unwind in a natural habitat. At the same time, a Farmers’ Market is organised every Tuesday to let students witness an array of local produce.
The University is situated just 5km from the city of Limerick and 20 km from Shannon Airport. Limerick is a modern city with a population of 90,000 and is easily accessible by train, bus and taxi.

"My consultant was very helpful and motivating. She helped me every step of the way, even when the deadline was so close. I could not have done it without her. I'd recommend this service to anyone interested in taking the stress out of applying alone."
