Overview

The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) is an associate college of the University of Dublin, Trinity College. It is one of Europe’s oldest music conservatoires specialising in classical music and Irish harp. RIAM has taught many music performers and composers who later achieved acclaim on the world stage. RIAM takes up students from the age of 4 years and gives music education to doctoral levels. The institute offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees in music performance.

Founded in 1848 by a group of music enthusiasts, RIAM was granted the right to use the title ‘Royal’ a year later. Over the years, RIAM has become a place of inspiration for musicians worldwide and has led the education of more than one million musicians in Ireland. The teaching staff includes many national and international winners, members of the RTE Concert Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, apart from other experts whose names are regarded highly in the field of music education in Ireland.

Services for International Students

The Royal Academy of Music has a long history of welcoming foreign students and maintaining a friendly atmosphere for the international student community, constituting 15% of the total student population. To help students settle into the new environment, social activities are organized during the first week of their term. Orientation meetings are held with the administrative staff on practical matters such as getting student travel pass, ban account, and much more. If any students still face issues, they are given confidential mentoring and counselling services.

The school's curriculum includes orchestra, opera performances, chamber music and other projects, apart from supporting studies in entrepreneurship and academic components. As the college is associated with Trinity College Dublin, students at RIAM get access to a larger university experience with student support clubs and a gym and a small conservatoire environment.

The Royal Irish Academy of Music also has an active Students Union that organises in-house social events and gatherings for all the students, enabling them to stay connected and enjoy life in Dublin.
