Dublin City University chosen for the Establishment of a Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Manufacturing

The Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK have jointly chosen Dublin City University as the host location in Ireland for setting up a centre for doctoral training in advanced manufacturing.

This Doctoral Training Centre will be used as the Irish location for training 26 PhD scholars in Advanced Metallic Systems (AMS) and 75 PhD scholars in the UK over a period of nine years. Professor Dermot Brabazon of DCU will head the Irish component of the CDT which is a collaboration between the University of Sheffield and the University of Manchester in the UK and University College Dublin and Dublin City University in Ireland.  

The President of DCU said of the selection, “The University has established a significant reputation in the areas of advanced manufacturing and processing technology and the establishment of the centre at DCU is an endorsement of our expertise in this area.” Highlighting the significance of this centre, he added, “The manufacturing sector is the second largest employer in Ireland and the centre will play a key role in both growing our knowledge base in the area of metallics manufacturing and in responding to industry’s skills needs.”
