New Global Strategy to Promote More International Students at Trinity Underway

Trinity College Dublin launched its third ‘Global Relations Strategy’ which is aimed at expanding the University’s partnership with global universities, providing more opportunities to international students.

Earlier this year, TCD also collaborated with four major European universities establishing the CHARM EU - a network of European universities for enabling students to experience the learning environment at different international universities and receive degrees of more than one university. Trinity will also continue to be a part of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), which has amongst its members prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and Copenhagen.

The International Foundation Year Programme has also witnessed huge success with applicants from 53 countries joining it to prepare for an undergraduate degree at TCD. This has resulted in increasing the student population at Trinity in one year by 3000 students including Irish, EU and non-EU students. The University will also increase student mobility from 30 to 50 percent by increasing the number of Student Exchange Agreements.

Speaking at the launch, Provost Patrick Prendergast said: “Our global engagement in this strategy is holistic. While there is a focus on recruitment, there is also a focus on further developing partnerships with universities around the world, particularly in Europe and increasing opportunities for student mobility and enriching their education.
