Sociology is a branch of social sciences and studies the origins of society, its development, organisations and institutions. Sociology uses methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about human social activity, structures and functions.

Sociology graduates will find employment in the media, local government, research, management, consulting, housing and education, academia and teaching, policy analysis, non-governmental organisations and advisory roles in public services.
Entry requirements vary for each Irish university, but Indian students will need an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, no lower than 5.5 in each component, and an International Baccalaureate score of 32 points.
